First Official Family Vacation
by Tricia
As summer drew to a close, we had the opportunity to enjoy our first just-the-three-of-us family vacation. We kept it simple and headed just an hour from home, to the Oregon coast. Ironically, we left the summer weather at home (it was the week after Labor Day and while the Willamette Valley sat in ninety-degree weather, the coast was covered in a thick, soupy fog most of the time.) Oh well.
We stayed in a condominium unit that had an indoor pool and, on every day but one, we were the only three in the pool, We also visited the aquarium, were the only patrons for a (very) early lunch at an Asian Noodle Cafe in Newport, watched a spectacular sunset, flew a kite on the beach, ate chowder at Mo's, and visited a pirate bakery!
It was a wonderful few days spent just relaxing and having fun as a family without the everyday busyness to distract us. I'm so glad we had the opportunity to spend a few days away from home. And I can't even begin to explain how it warmed my heart every time Madelyn exclaimed (while swimming, running on the beach, etc.), "I having fun, Mommy & Daddy!!" So were we, Baby Girl. So were we.
